The blue clock in the dash blinks and shows 12:08am, as the car behind her impatiently honks and flashes the high beams. Her lashes fly up to meet her scared reflection in the tiny unlit mirror on the visor, as her foot unconsciously hits the gas pedal. With her mind still hours away from the present, she almost loses control while turning left into a once familiar street. She shakes off the lavender mocha spell and holds onto the steering wheel till the knuckles turn white and the speedometer hits 80. His voice is stuck in her head from earlier that evening: "If you knew what I'm going through…". Undeniably, it is very tempting to make assumptions as to what makes him sound so stressed and uneasy, but she interrupts herself abruptly. Tegan and Sara's tune is smoothly floating in the hot air of the car heater and makes her thoughts cuddle up next to each other in some perfect, yet unknown, order. This strange calm that surrounds her body feels so new and soothing, that it is almost uncomfortable. What was once treasured is now forgotten; what was once miscellaneous is now essential. She's growing up...
