9:40 PM
The highway goes on for miles ahead of them. He looks at the clock, as he hopelessly tries to slow it down with his eyes; he looks back at the road, as his hands desperately grab onto the steering wheel of a car flying 90mph. She looks down, as his reflection in the CD case is burning a whole in his watch again. Her weary eyes are fighting to stay open and keep him some company.
The sleep never came the night before, as they laid on the floor so close, yet so far from each other. Timing is everything and everything was against all odds. She saw it coming, didn't care and did it anyways. The desire of being close to someone without looking vulnerable finally got out couple of days before and stayed next to them the entire cold weekend.
Now the weekend is over, and he is gone. She is sitting on the roof of a parking garage, listening to the city underneath her. One glance at the shimmering city skyline distorted by skyscrapers; that fake elegance does not belong here… Just like she does not belong in his life. She needs to stop looking in all the wrong places at all the right times. Timing is not everything after all; it can be so deceitful. But then again, we are never deceived; we deceive ourselves... And we keep looking...
